LOW BROS
Born in Hamburg but living and working from Berlin, Germany, the two brothers, Christoph and Florin Schmidt, better known as dynamic duo ‘Low Bros’, formed in 2011 and have since drawn attention to their work. Their extremely detailed acrylic and aerosol painted murals can be found around the planet and are known for merging animals into geometric and anthropomorphic shapes.
Their animals often resemble people they have met or represent common stereotypes, sometimes even a whole subculture, and are a product of the brother’s upbringing and their attachment to ’80s and ’90s skate and hip-hop culture. The beastly motifs mostly show visualized codes and attitudes of city life and therefore internalize the ambivalence of urbanity and nature. While their colourful images are a manifest to graffiti culture, the clear lines and use of merging geometric shapes is an indicator of their art school background.
